Expert summary
Micro-blogging refers to blogging that allows users to write brief text updates and publish them. The texts users can write will usually have only 140 characters. The text updates users write may be viewed by anyone or by a restricted group as per the desire of the user. The message is submitted in a variety of means such as text messaging, instant messaging, email or the web. The most popular micro blogging service is Twitter, introduced in July 2006. It won the Web Award in the blog category at the 2007 South by Southwest Conference in Texas. Now Jaiku was a major competitor before it was acquired by Google. There are some recently developed services which offer the same features.
